A passion discovered Part 3

A few weeks later I was watching TV and I saw this crazy commercial for an Anime that changed millions of kids life: Akira.

The trailer was nothing like the other anime I used to watch on TV.
When y saw the impact of the graphic violence  I got immediately hooked. I was 11 years old and a very hyperactive kid. Very violent as well but the fact that I was drawing violent things just calmed me down quite much. I was too busy tracing my favorite TV show characters to actually bother some one else.
I was analyzing each stroke, wondering how the hell they managed to paint something that good.
How the colors and shapes where put together.
The contrast, the skin tones, the buildings, the bike, everything seemed magic to me.

I was transported in an other world because I was getting into that age where all the kids want to escape reality. I didn't have the chance to go see the movie to the movie theater so I saved enough money to buy the comic books. It was coming out every month, and waiting a month for the next episode was a very hard thing to do!
So I would read the same comic book over and over and over again.
The plot was great, the characters where awesome and the best of it: it was a colored version.
Colored by Steve Olif:

He did a great job though.
I am kind of sad I don t have the comic books anymore since they are collector items now.
Who would believe it!!!!
Steve Olif had the "Best Colorist" award from 92 to 95.
And I am glad that I was copying from the bests:
Katsuhiro Otomo and Steve Olif's combination.

You got the link there so you ca have the entire info on Akira.

That drawing there was by far one of my favorite for years.
I copied it of course, and I spent hours trying to get the exact same tones with my markers.
A few years later I did this drawing below. I had a few ideas for a manga. I still have the story line but I never finished the project. I think I should have when I think of it now.

And Just for fans I live you with one of my favorite scenes of the animated movie!!!
