Do you know Yoyogi Park ? This is one of the biggest park in Tokyo and it is located near JR Harajuku Station and Meiji shrine in Shibuya. It is well-known for being a popular hangout, one of the most trendy place in Tokyo and if you take a walk in it on week ends you'll see lots of young people playing music, practicing dance etc...
So you can go whenever you want, there is always going to be something to see and you will never get bored ! But a lot of various events are organized almost every week end so you may want to go at some of these !
I am going to introduce a few of them below in chronological order.
On January :
- Yoyogi Park flea marketIt is the famous flea market taking place in Yoyogi every month and often several days per month.
Here is the schedule for the next 3 months :
For January 15 and 22
February 5, 12, 19, 26
March 17 and 20
You can find cheap good stuff and it can also be a good occasion to meet new people and communicate with Japanese people. Being close to Harajuku and Shibuya, it is very lively and youthfull. Find there trendy cloths, accessories and a lot more !
- Yoyogi Park jogging on the 14th from 12 to 2 PM.
- Earth Garden festival, winter edition on the 28th and 29th.
It is a gathering for lovers of nature and green-minded people... and also people interested in finding some funny and original items and natural products ! There are also musician performances and lots of people having lot of fun, for example last year you could find hula hoopers, Rockabilly people etc....
On February :
- World Valentine Festival on the 4th and 5th.
Yoyogi Park's World Valentine Festival is an invitation for everybody, Japanese people and foreigners, to come ad celebrate Valentine Day together in Yoyogi Park.Stands selling various things and lots of activities, accompanied with music and musical performances.
For the ladies, if you have some chocolate to offer, following the Japanese custom, this may be the perfect place so don't forget them !
On March :
- Jazz Festival, 2012 on the 21st.For the Jazz lovers out there, this is not an event to miss ! You can meet other Jazz fans, watch some amateur but very good young artists and so discover the young Japanese jazz scene. At the same time, professional artists are also present. You can also try some Jazz music instruments yourself !
Each year, several thousands of people gather for this event and it is incredible to see that jazz attracts a great part of the young population in Japan.
